Central Sector Scholarship Scheme for the College and University Students 2023-24

Ministry of Human Resources Development, Department of Higher Education is offering the Central Sector Scholarship Scheme for the College and University Students 2023-24 to give financial help to the deprived but commendable students who are studying in Class 11 to PG level to help them to their daily expenses during higher studies. Those candidates will be benefited from this scholarship scheme who are studying from 11th class to Post Graduation level in the Govt schools or colleges or universities. The application for the Central Sector Scholarship Scheme for the College and University Students 2023-24 for Fresh and Renewal is invited from the eligible students.

Central Sector Scholarship Scheme

The Central sector Scholarship will be awarded to the students based on the result of the class XII exam. Under the scholarship scheme, there are 82000 fresh scholarship are launched every year, from which 41000 scholarships are for boys and 41000 scholarships for girl students for graduate /post-graduate studies and professional courses, like medical, engineering. etc.

Eligibility Criteria

1. The students who score above 80% marks in Class XII or equivalent in the relevant stream are eligible to apply.
2. The students whose parent/guardian annual income not exceed Rs. Eight lakhs (8,00,000/-) from all sources are eligible to apply for the Central Sector Scholarship Scheme.
3. The student must be pursuing regular courses from renowned educational institutions and not correspondence/ distance mode.
4. The student must not be availing any other scholarship scheme.
5. All the students of the general and reserved category who fulfill the above eligibility criterion are eligible to apply for the scholarship scheme.

Category Reservation

• All the students of reserved categories/weaker sections/minorities are entitled to apply on a merit basis.
• Scheduled Caste candidate will get 15% reservation
• Scheduled Tribe candidates will get 7.5% reservation
• Other Backward Classes will get 27% reservation
• Physically Handicapped candidates will get a 5% reservation.

Central Sector Scholarship Apply

1. The candidates need to go to the National Scholarship Portal (NSP) to apply for Online Application
2. For the academic year 2023-24, the students can apply before the last date, ie. 31st October 2023.
3. The applications received physically will not be entertained.

Selection Process

1. The selection committee will announce the merit list of the selected candidates within 5 weeks after the announcement of the exam result by the board /university.
2. The students’ parent’s annual income will be considered before preparing the list.
3. The Board/ university in the State/UT will write the eligible candidates from the top of the merit list through the registered letter to confirm within the fifteen days, either to accept the scholarship or not.
4. If the replies from the candidates’ end will not be received within 30 days, their candidature will not be considered for the scholarship and the scholarship will be forwarded to the next eligible candidates in the merit list.
5. Then the shortlisted applicants should have to present the Entitlement Card, Income Affidavit form and Statement of Particular duly filled into the Head of the Institution. Then the Head of the Institution will complete the Entitlement Card and send it to the concerned State /Board.
6. After receiving the joining report, statement of particulars and Income affidavit, the Board will make the list of selected candidates based on merit, eligibility, and reservation and will forward the same to the Ministry of Human Resource Department, scholarship division.
7. The department then pays the scholarship to the selected candidates via the assigned bank.

Scholarship Amount

• The scholars will receive Rs. One Thousand (1000/-) per month at the Graduation level for the first 3 years of college/university course.
• The scholars will receive Rs. Two Thousand (2000/-) per month at Post Graduation level.
• The candidate who is practicing the Professional course would receive Rs. Two Thousand (2000/-) per month in the fourth and fifth years of the course.
• The scholarship award will be provided to the student for the ten (10) months in an academic year.\

Scholarship Duration

1. The duration of the Central Sector Scholarship Scheme is a maximum of five (5) years.
2. The scholarship scheme is renewable year after year up to the post-graduation level.
3. For the professional course, the scholarship is renewable up to the graduation level.
4. The renewal of the scholarship will depend if the scholars secure 60% or more marks or equivalent grade in the annual examination will be promoted to the next class. The scholar should also have 75% attendance in the preceding year to promoted to the next class.

Scholarship Payment

• The payment of the scholarship shall be paid to the scholars by the Central Govt. to the Students Bank Account through the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) system. The payment of the scholarship will be given to the selected students from the month of the admission is achieved.
• The scholarship award will be given to the students for 10 months in an Academic year.
