Commonwealth Masters Scholarship in 2023

Commonwealth Master’s Scholarships 2023 for Master’s level studies in the UK university are offered by Commonwealth Scholarship Commission in the UK (CSCUK) for the citizens from low and middle-income Commonwealth countries. These scholarships are funded by the UK Department for International Development (DFID) and are a part of the Commonwealth Scholarship and Fellowship Plan. The scholarship offered for pursuing a Master’s course only to the students of developing commonwealth countries who are not able to study in the UK because of the financial problem to enable talented and motivated candidates to avail the knowledge and skills required for sustainable development.

These scholarships are offered under six themes:

  2. Strengthening health systems and capacity
  3. Promoting global prosperity
  4. Strengthening global peace, security, and governance
  5. Strengthening resilience and response to crises
  6. Access, inclusion, and opportunity

The selected scholars will be provided with various benefits such as monthly allowance, airfare, dissertation expenses, an arrival allowance, and study travel expenses under Commonwealth Masters Scholarship.

Eligibility Criteria

  • The applying candidate for Commonwealth Masters Scholarship should be a Commonwealth citizen, refugee, or British protected person
  • He/she should be permanently resident in an eligible developing Commonwealth country.
  • The selected candidate should be available to start their academic studies in the UK by the start of the UK academic year in September/October 2023 under Commonwealth Masters Scholarship.
  • The candidate should hold a first degree of upper second class or equivalent by September 2023 or a second class degree and a relevant postgraduate qualification.
  • The candidate must be in financial need and unable themselves or through their family to pay to study in the UK.
  • He/she must have provided all the required documents in the required format with the Commonwealth Masters Scholarship application.

Antigua and Barbuda, Bangladesh, Belize, Botswana, Cameroon, Dominica, Eswatini, Fiji, The Gambia, Ghana, Grenada, Guyana, India, Jamaica, Kenya, Kiribati, Lesotho, Malawi, Malaysia, Mauritius, Montserrat, Mozambique, Namibia, Nauru, Nigeria, Pakistan, Papua New, Guinea, Rwanda, St Helena, St Lucia, St Vincent and The Grenadines, Samoa, Sierra Leone, Solomon Islands, South Africa, Sri Lanka, Tanzania, Tonga, Tuvalu, Uganda, Vanuatu, Zambia.

Benefits of Scholarship

Commonwealth Masters Scholarship is jointly funded by the CSC and participating in UK universities.

Each selected scholarship will be provided with the following benefits.

  1. Approved airfare from your home country to the UK and return at the end of your award (arranged by the university; funded by the CSC) ·
  2. Approved tuition and examination fees (funded by the CSC) under Commonwealth Masters Scholarship.
  3. The stipend of Living allowance) at the rate of £1,110 per month are provided or £1,362 per month for those studying at universities in the London metropolitan area (rates quoted at 2023-2023 levels)
  4. Warm clothing allowance (paid and funded by the university)
  5. Study travel grant towards the costs of study-related travel within the UK or overseas under the Commonwealth Masters Scholarship.
  6. Thesis grant towards the cost of preparing a thesis or dissertation, where applicable for Commonwealth Masters Scholarship.
  7. In case of candidate is widowed, divorced or a single parent, Child Allowance of £476 per month for the first child, and £117 per month for the second and third child under the age of 16, if you are accompanied by your children and them are living with you at the same address in the UK (rates quoted at 2023-2023 levels)

How To Apply Online

  • The interested candidates must apply online to study an eligible Master’s course at a UK university that is participating in the Commonwealth Masters Scholarship Scheme.
  • The candidates can make the online application using the CSC’s Online Application System.
  • Before applying, you must check with your UK university for their specific advice, admission requirements, and rules for applying.
  • Some universities may require you to complete their own admissions application form as well, which may have a separate closing date.
  • The applications that are not submitted through the Online Application System will not be accepted by CSC for Commonwealth Masters Scholarship.
  • Candidates’ applications must be submitted by the date mentioned above (last date for Commonwealth Masters Scholarship).
  • The candidates must submit the following supporting documents with the Commonwealth Masters Scholarship application.

Supporting Documents

  • Proof of citizenship or refugee status.
  • Full transcripts detailing all your higher education qualifications including to-date transcripts for any qualifications you are currently studying
  • References from a minimum of two individuals. This should be directly submitted by the referees to the online application system.

All the supporting documents should be uploaded to the online Commonwealth Masters Scholarship application system. These may not be more than 5 MB in size and must be in PDF, .doc, .docx, .odt, .jpg, .jpeg formats.
