National Fellowship for Higher Education of ST Students 2019-2020The name of Rajiv Gandhi National Fellowship, which has been awarded to Scheduled Tribes (ST) students studying M.Phil, Ph.D. in various universities of the country including Delhi University, has been changed. Now, this fellowship is known as National Fellowship for Higher Education of ST Students 2023. Every year this fellowship from the University Grants Commission (UGC) provides a higher education scholarship to 750  ST students.

According to a UGC notification, information about this name change has been made available to the applicants. Apart from this, it has also been clarified that this scholarship is being made available through the Ministry of Tribal Affairs. An official said that confusion is being spread about the closure of this fellowship, whereas the reality is that its name is changed only. With the help of this fellowship, 750 students of Scheduled Tribes studying in MPhil, Ph.D. are being provided fellowships in various universities across the country every year.

About ST Fellowship

Meritorious students of Scheduled Tribes (ST) are awarded National Fellowships and Scholarships for Higher Education of ST Students 2023-24 for doing M.Phil. and Ph.D. This fellowship, is offered by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment and Ministry of Tribal Affairs, Government of India. The objective of this fellowship and scholarship is to promote higher and research education to the meritorious students of scheduled tribes (ST). The main aim of this fellowship is to provide Dalits with the opportunity of advanced study and research in science, engineering, technology, humanities and social sciences in Indian universities and colleges.

ST Fellowship Features

The scheme provides masters-level courses abroad in 35 specified subjects of engineering, technical, science, Ph.D. And provides financial assistance to 15 talented ST students (13 ST and 2 PGT) of post-doctoral research program level.

This scheme attempts to increase employment opportunities for the candidates of Scheduled Tribes.

100% central assistance is provided directly to the candidate.

Financial assistance is provided until the completion of the courses/theses including the following period, whichever is earlier.

  • Postdoctoral research – 1 and 1/2 years (one and half year)
  • Ph.D. – 4 years (four years)
  • Master’s Degree – 3 years (three years)

Additional time of stay after the prescribed period of the above courses can be considered only on the recommendations of the competent officer in the additional educational institution/university of the Indian Mission Abroad, without any kind of financial assistance, only to return to India by air. except.

National Fellowship Benefits

  1. Selected students are provided tuition and other tuition fees etc. by the foreign university. Apart from this, maintenance and other grants are also provided along with travel expenses.
  2. Only approved grants to four such ST students included in the merit scholarship for foreign government/institutions or under any scheme for postgraduate study, research or training abroad (excluding seminars, workshops, conferences) in which approved costs are not provided. Provided each year.
  3. Through the research/teaching assistantship up to the prescribed ceiling, the awardees were allowed to fulfill their prescribed procedures. Where income is beyond the ceiling, the maintenance allowance under this scheme will be reduced accordingly by the Indian Mission abroad.

National Fellowship Amount

In the case of Junior Research Fellowship, a sum of Rs 8,000 per month is given to the selected candidates for the National Fellowship for Higher Education of ST Students 2023 for the initial two years of research. Apart from this, contingency expenses for the initial two years of 10,000 rupees per year are paid to registered research students in Humanities and Social Sciences.

Whereas, registered researchers in science subjects get Rs 12,000 per year. As departmental assistance, all subjects get Rs 3,000 per year and maintenance, reader assistance Rs 1,000 per month. This amount is given to students of all disciplines in case of physically challenged and visually impaired students. Apart from this, the house rent allowance is also available.

Similarly for SRF, Rs. 9,000 per month fellowship Rs. 20,500 to Rs. 25,000 per year contingency expenditure Rs. 30,000 per year departmental assistance and Rs. 1000 per month escort, reader assistance, and house rent allowance.

Eligibility for ST Fellowship

For the National Fellowship for Higher Education of ST Students 2023, a candidate must have a post-graduate degree in science, engineering, technology, humanities or social science. Candidates for the scholarship are selected based on the percentage of marks obtained in the post-graduation or higher degree. Along with this, the applicant should be registered for a Ph.D. or M.Phil. in a recognized university or institute in India.

  • The candidate should belong to the Scheduled Tribe (ST) community.
  • Candidate’s Master’s Degree, Ph.D. For first and post-doctoral research, the first class should have 60% marks or equivalent grade in a relevant degree.
  • The age of the candidate should not be less than 35 years.
  • The parent/guardian’s income from all sources should not exceed Rs. 25,000 per month (excluding the total income tax for income).
  • Not more than one child of the same parent/guardian is eligible.
  • Candidates who are in employment or working have to send their application through the employer along with the No Objection Certificate (NOC).
  • Finally, the selected candidates are required to enter and join a recognized university/institute abroad within three years in the chosen field.
