[USIEF​] Fulbright Nehru Master’s Fellowship 2023

The candidates who want to practice a Master’s Degree at selected US Colleges and universities, then to fulfill your desire, the Fulbright Nehru Masters’ Fellowship has come into existence. This means Fulbright Nehru Masters’ Fellowship 2023 for Indian students has been launched by USIEF United States India Educational Foundation for the brilliant Indian students to practice a Master’s Degree in a suitable field of study in the US United States for the academic year 2023. Fulbright Nehru Masters’ Fellowship 2023 is for the period of two (2) years.

United States India Educational Foundation USIEF​

The fellowship is provided for the applicants in the following nine fields.

  • Arts and Culture Management including Heritage Conservation and Museum Studies 
  • Environmental Science/Studies 
  • Higher Education Administration
  • International Affairs
  • International Legal Studies
  • Public Administration 
  • Public Health  
  • Urban and Regional Planning 
  • Women’s Studies/Gender Studies.

Eligibility Criteria

  1. The applicant who wants to be a part of Fulbright Nehru Master’s Fellowship must be a citizen of India.                                                         
  2. The application applicant must be residing in India at the time of application.
  3. The applicant who is interested to apply for the fellowship, then he/she should be in good health.
  4. The candidates must not be applying or holding a green card in the US.
  5. It is required that the applicant have to give the undertaking to return India after the close of fellowship.

Educational Eligibility :

  • The candidate should have to qualify for the TOFEL exam and demonstrate proficiency in English to start the planned project or program.
  • The candidates must have completed an equivalent of a US bachelor’s degree from a recognized Indian university with scoring at least 55 percent (%) marks.
  • The candidates should be holding a 4-year bachelor’s degree OR have completed a master’s degree in case the bachelor’s degree is of smaller than 4 years’ duration or a completed master’s degree, or a full-time postgraduate diploma from a recognized Indian institution.

Work Experience:

  • To be eligible for the fellowship, the candidates must have at least 3 years’ full-time professional work experience in their anticipated field of study.
  • The candidate must not be enrolled in a US degree program or he/she should not have another degree from US universities.
  • The candidate must demonstrate experience in leadership and community service.

Fulbright Nehru doctoral fellowship amount

The selected candidates for Fulbright Nehru Masters’ Fellowship will get the following benefits.

  1. The candidate will get J-1 Visa Support
  2. The selected candidate will the economy class airfare from home city to the host institution in the US.
  3. The student will also get the Funding for Tuition fee, living, and related cost.
  4. The candidates will also get the Accident and Sickness coverage per  US Govt. guidelines.

Important – The selected candidates will not get the funding from USIEF for all expenses of the scholar.

Application Process

  1. The desirable or eligible candidates who want to apply for Fulbright Nehru Master’s Fellowship can be made online application to IIE/Fullbright.
  2. The next step will be taken by Fullbright/IIE it will make further applications in support of the candidates to the Institutes in the USA.                                                                                                                                            Apply Online for Fulbright Nehru Master’s Fellowship 2023                      
  3. Here the applicant has to enter their Email Address and password and in case the new user then creates an account.
  4. The suggested candidates are not required to apply to US institutions on their own. IIE/Fulbright Program will apply to four different institutions on their behalf, taking into consideration the candidates’ preferred institutions and the candidates’ competitiveness.
  5. The candidate is required to submit three reference letters. One written by a teacher, where the applicant must have studied or completed his research or has supervised in work
  6. The applicant has to submit 3 reference letters written by teachers under whom the applicant must have studied or completed his research or has supervised in work correlated to the proposed field.
  7. The letters of reference must not be written by any family member/relative/friends of the applicant.
  8. The letters of reference should be written in the English language or it should be translated into English.
  9. Online Submission –Referees are able to submit the reference letters online by clicking on the Recommendation box on the home page of a web portal to register their recommenders.
  10. The referees have to submit the recommendation by 15th March 2023. 
  11. Referees should be able to submit recommendations even after the application is submitted.

  • The signature form can be downloaded from supplemental form links on the homepage of web portal
  • Bio page of passport, the pages which contain photographs, names, passport number of the candidates.
  • The writing sample can also be uploaded by the Master’s candidates which must not exceed 2 MB.
  • The candidates should have to upload a copy of TOFEL/GRE test scorecards and scanned copies of work or professional experience. The total pdf of these documents must not be more than 2 MB.
  • The applicants who are employed should have to upload a Fulbright Nehru Master’s Employers Endorsement Form. The employer of the employed applicants should also have to send the FN Masters Employers Endorsement Form by post on the below-mentioned address-

The procedure of Selection for Fulbright scholarship India 2023

  • The applicants who will shortlist for personal Interview will have to report personally at Head office of USIEF at New Delhi
  • Those applicants will be given preference who have not had extensive recent US experience.
  • If the candidates had earlier applied to US institutions and have made the request a deferment from the institution, then the candidates must inform USIEF immediately at [email protected].
  • In case the applicant already has a suspension then USIEF and IIE will not apply to any other institution and will get to corroborate placement only at the deferral institution.

Timeline and placement process of Fulbright scholarship 2023

  1. End Date of Submission of Application – 15 May 2023
  2. Field-specific screening committees review applications to short-list candidates – end June, 2023. 
  3. USIEF informs the applicants about the review: Late July 2023
  4. National interviews of short-listed candidates in Delhi – Mid August 2023
  5. USIEF notifies finalists and alternates that they are recommended and they then take tests – end August 2023
  6. USIEF forwards applications of recommended candidates to the US for Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board (FSB) approval and placement – October 2023
  7. USIEF notifies finalists – March or April 2023
  8. Pre-Departure Orientation in India – May. 2023
  9. Pre-academic training in the US (if required) – July – August 2023
  10. Degree program begins – August – September 2023
